Nayla Purnama Faces Culture Shock in 'OUTSIDE NURUL'

Kapanlagi.com - Vidio once again livens up the lineup of teenage shows by presenting a new Original Series titled OUTSIDE NURUL. This series produced by Screenplay Films offers a story about ambition, friendship, self-discovery, and romance that resonates with the lives of today's youth. Starring Nayla Purnama, Gabriel Harun Giroux, Rayensyah Rassya, and Lea Ciarachel, this series premieres on June 5, 2026.

OUTSIDE NURUL centers around Kania, a smart and ambitious teenager with big dreams of continuing her education at the University of Oxford. Along with her two friends in the gang The Centils, Jihan and Aisyah, Kania experiences a colorful school life before a major opportunity changes her life.

That opportunity comes when Kania is accepted into Galaxy High School, a prestigious international school known for its excellent academic programs. This step brings her closer to her dream of studying abroad, but it also forces her out of her comfort zone and into an environment very different from her previous life.

1. Cultural Shock

In her new school, Kania experiences culture shock. From the lifestyle of her classmates to the competitive academic environment, she has to adapt quickly. Whereas she used to be one of the top students, now Kania has to work hard to compete with other high-achieving students.

The journey becomes even tougher as Kania is often looked down upon for coming from a public school. However, this character trait is one of the reasons Nayla Purnama was interested in portraying her. According to the young actress, Kania has a spirit that resonates with many young people today.

2. Friendship Conflicts

"What I like about Kania is that she doesn’t easily feel inferior. Even though she is often looked down upon for coming from a public school, she remains focused on her goals and doesn’t want to limit herself because of what others say. I think that’s a very relatable message for young people who may have felt underestimated or considered incapable," said Nayla at a press conference at XXI Senayan City, Central Jakarta, Wednesday (3/6).

Not only highlighting academic struggles, this series also presents interesting friendship conflicts. One of them is through the character Lily, played by Lea Ciarachel. At the beginning of the story, Lily is depicted as a popular student who often looks down on others, including Kania, who is considered different from the Galaxy High School environment.

3. Emotional Journey

Nevertheless, Lily's character turns out to have a quite complex emotional journey. As the story progresses, various experiences change her perspective and lead her to a meaningful process of self-discovery.

"Lily is a teenager who is in the phase of searching for her identity and trying to understand the world around her. At the beginning of the story, she is quite arrogant and often looks down on others because she is used to being in such an environment. However, as the story unfolds, Lily faces various experiences that gradually change her perspective. In my opinion, through Lily's character, the audience can see that we cannot judge someone solely based on their background or first impression. Sometimes we need to get to know someone better before making a judgment," Lea explained.

4. Valuable Experience

Besides Lily, the character Gus Ammar, played by Rayensyah Rassya, is also an important figure in Kania's life. As a model student admired by many, including Kania, this character brings a unique color to the journey of the main character. To delve into this role, Rayensyah even conducted various research on a teenager who grows up with strong religious values.

"Delving into the character of Gus Ammar has been a very valuable experience for me because there are many new things to learn, especially from the perspective of religious knowledge. I searched for various references from public figures and gus who are already well-known in society. In my opinion, Ammar does have a mature personality, but he is still a 17-year-old teenager who is in the process of growing and learning," Rayensyah explained.
