Sandiaga Uno Encourages Local Filmmakers to Participate in Meet and Greet Family Sunday Movie

In addition to being able to provide many job opportunities, the film industry also has a multiplier effect to accelerate economic recovery, contribute to community empowerment and independence, and promote local heroes, especially in the short film community.

Reflecting on these facts, the Minister of Tourism and Creative Economy, Sandiaga Uno, hopes that young filmmakers from the regions can continue to improve their abilities and develop their creativity.

"Congratulations on being creative, creating great works, developing the potential of the regions, and proving that we are capable of being agents of change for the future. Hopefully, short films will continue to flourish and participate in various other film festivals, both nationally and internationally," said Sandiaga Uno during the Meet and Greet Family Sunday Movie event virtually, on Thursday (24/2/2022).

Meet and Greet Family Sunday Movie (FSM) is one of the series of programs in the Family Sunday Movie 2022 initiated by the Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy/Creative Economy Agency through the Directorate of Music, Film, and Animation. FSM itself is a short film festival to appreciate the players in the film industry, especially indie films in Indonesia, as well as to promote selected short films.

Through Family Sunday Movie, it is hoped that a platform can be created for local filmmakers to showcase their short films, compete, improve their skills to produce better works, and create as many job opportunities as possible that have a sustainable economic impact in the Indonesian film industry. Local young filmmakers also have the same opportunity to showcase their works, gain competition experience, improve their skills to produce better works, and open opportunities to create as many job opportunities as possible that have a sustainable economic impact.

The Family Sunday Movie event (FSM) itself has received positive responses from local filmmakers. As many as 215 films have been registered within 11 days, starting from February 2 to 12.

"If one community requires around 30 people, with 215 films, it means there are around 6,450 workers employed. This is a signal of the revival of the creative economy sector," said Sandiaga Uno.

2. 2 Films Selected for FSM February

After going through the selection and curation stages, 2 films were chosen as the official selection for FSM February, namely:
1. Film Maramba, directed by Riandhani Yudha Pamungkas from Etanan Films Community for the documentary film genre;
2. Film Gemintang, directed by Irfan Akbar from Gresik Movie Community for the fiction film genre.

Minister of Tourism and Creative Economy Sandiaga Uno had the opportunity to present certificates as a form of appreciation for the production team's hard work in producing quality short films. Meanwhile, for participants who were not selected, Sandiaga hopes that they will not be discouraged. Because the Family Sunday Movie program will continue every month until October 2022.

Filmmakers who have not had the opportunity to participate in February can submit their works in the upcoming month of March. Registration will be reopened from March 2nd to March 12th, 2022. Complete information about FSM can be accessed through www.familysundaymovie.com.

3. FSM as a Barometer of Short Film Industry Development

Director of Music, Film, and Animation of the Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy, Mohammad Amin stated that the FSM event proves that local filmmakers are productive in producing extraordinary works.

"There is a high enthusiasm for the Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy's program to support the development of indie films in Indonesia through the works of filmmakers or local film communities. The FSM event also has a significant impact on the movement of the economy, the growth of employment opportunities, and the increase in workforce," he said.

Chairman of Family Sunday Movie, Emil Heradi added that film communities spread across provinces also participated, showing the potential, great interest, and creative resources of young Indonesians in the audiovisual field. Based on the origin of the hundreds of participating films, it also represents the diversity of colors in works that display various themes, different perspectives in showcasing local wisdom, hot issues from each region, as well as diversity and unity that are well encapsulated in a short film.

"The curation process of all registered short films, both fiction and documentary films, is done objectively. The most important thing is not who the filmmaker is, but to focus on the originality of ideas, uniqueness, storytelling ability, and the technical quality of cinema that meets the standards of short films," said Emil.

Emil hopes that in the future, FSM can become a benchmark for the development of the short film industry in Indonesia.

4. Not Many Requirements

Riandhani Yudha Pamungkas from Etanan Films Community believes that FSM event is a very open film festival and does not limit anyone to register their work.

"There are not many requirements that burden creators in presenting their work. This is one of the platforms that truly liberates us to express what we want to create and what we want to appreciate in our film works," he said.

Meanwhile, national film director, scriptwriter, and film activist, BW Purbanegara, stated that FSM event is interesting because of its long duration. This will encourage film communities to be productive all the time.

"This is important so that whenever filmmakers have ideas, they can immediately make a film. Because it cannot be denied, many communities are stimulated to create if there is a festival," he explained.

The Meet and Greet Family Sunday Movie event was also attended by curators including Mohamad Ariansah, Wicaksono Wisnu Legowo, Batara Goempar, and Damas Cendekia. There were also Director and Screenwriter Bobby Prasetyo, as well as BW Purbanegara who is also a Screenwriter and Director, Head of Communication Bureau at the Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy / Tourism and Creative Economy Agency, I Gusti Ayu Dewi Hendriyani, and all Heads of Departments or representatives of local government.
