Suddenly Dangdut Premieres on April 30, Monty Tiwa Presents a Musical Comedy Rich in Emotion and Culture

Kapanlagi.com - The Indonesian film industry welcomes a promising work that offers entertainment along with emotional touches through the film Suddenly Dangdut. Directed by Monty Tiwa, this film will officially premiere in cinemas across Indonesia starting April 30, 2025.

"Crafting this to be a spectacle, which surely isn't difficult for us who grew up with dangdut. The challenge is how to make dangdut relevant in big cities," said Monty Tiwa when met on Tuesday (April 22, 2025).

This film stars Anya Geraldine, Keanu Angelo, Dwi Sasono, Aisha Nurra Datau, Fajar Nugra, and Opie Kumis. The story follows Naya, a pop diva who is forced to hide in the world of dangdut music after a major scandal shakes her career.

"Because first this is not a remake. This is a new story, what exists here is a film that accommodates dangdut in this era," Monty further explained.

1. Naya's Touching Life Journey

Naya's journey, played by Anya Geraldine, not only touches on the musical side but also on life's struggles. She has to take care of her father who suffers from OCD and adapt to a life far from luxury.

"Perhaps personally I have been given the opportunity and trust to portray the challenging role of Naya. Here I have to learn to sing dangdut, dance, and the acting range is not easy," said Anya Geraldine.

In addition to the main story, the cast also shared interesting experiences during the shooting process. Kelvin Jeremy, for example, had to portray a character who has passed away and admitted that the shooting was very challenging.

"It's also interesting because playing a dead person is difficult. I had to lie down for two hours because it had to be continuous, right?" Kelvin said.

Meanwhile, Wika Salim, who plays Tata, feels that the character she portrays has similarities to her personal life. She hopes this film can leave a mark in the hearts of the audience.

"It's slightly different. If Tata works for her child, I work for my family. So seeing Tata's struggles is like seeing my own struggles," Wika said.

2. Monty Tiwa's First Film as a Freelance Worker

This film is also very personal for Monty because it is the first project he worked on as a freelance worker. He hopes this film can be accepted by various segments of society.

"This is very personal, because this serves as proof. In the midst of fear, Mendadak Dangdut is there. So personally, this story is very sentimental," concluded Monty.
