The Making of 'PETUALANGAN SHERINA' Animation is Not Lost, Director Riri Riza: The Process is Still Ongoing

Kapanlagi.com - The pandemic situation at that time made Mira Lesmana and Riri Riza initiate the production of an animation film under the Miles Animation banner. In November 2020, the two filmmakers announced the production of the animated version of PETUALANGAN SHERINA involving three local studios.

Three years have passed, and there have been no developments regarding the continuation of the project. Riri revealed to KapanLagi.com that the animation film is still in progress.

"Making this animation film is quite challenging. It took quite a long time for us to figure out the right model. The process is still ongoing, it is not lost," said Riri when met at Empire XXI, Yogyakarta, recently.

1. Process Takes Time

Riri Riza explained that Miles Films is not a big production house. All projects that are initiated are prepared slowly while continuing to discuss.

"Usually, when Miles (makes a film) it takes time like that. Many aspects will affect its formation," said the bespectacled director.

2. Not in the Plan

The idea of making the animation PETUALANGAN SHERINA came without a plan. At that time, because the production of the film PETUALANGAN SHERINA 2 was delayed, they took advantage of the time to discuss the animated version.

"This animation was actually not in the plan. But, when we had to stop and couldn't work on PETUALANGAN SHERINA 2 on time due to the pandemic, one thing we could do from home was working on animation. Because we don't need to be on location, gathering with many people," said Mira in a virtual conference session via Zoom, three years ago.
