Visual quality is one of the crucial elements in an animated film, but MERAH PUTIH: ONE FOR ALL, which has just been released, seems to present an anomaly. A group of viewers who watched it at XXI Kemang Village on Thursday (14/8/2025) provided harsh reviews regarding the film's graphic aspects, which are considered far from current standards.
When specifically asked about its visual quality, Rindra Danatara, one of the viewers, gave a surprising answer. He stated that the visuals of this film seemed to regress significantly, reminding him of the quality of animation decades ago. "Wow, wow, this is to celebrate Indonesia's 80 years, right? This animation is, but this is 1980 animation. Yes, the 80s means 1980," he said.
Billy, his friend, chimed in with a joke that further emphasized the criticism. According to him, the label "80" in the celebration of Indonesia's independence seems to refer to the 1980s in the context of this film's visuals. "Celebrating 80 years of 1980, that’s what it means," Billy quipped.
