Desta Mahendra has been cast to portray the iconic character Dono in the latest film produced by Falcon Pictures titled WARKOP DKI: VIRALIN DOOOONG..!!. This film is scheduled to be released in theaters across the country on June 11, 2026.

Portraying one of Indonesia's comedy legends certainly presents its own challenges for Desta, especially physically. Desta admits that playing the character Dono is not an easy task because of the great responsibility of carrying the name of a legend.

However, he has the principle that his involvement in this film is not to mimic identically, but to preserve the legacy of the comedy.

"The difficulty is indeed because I am portraying a legend, but once again in my mindset is that this is, as Pakde (Indro) said, we are preserving, not duplicating," said Desta Mahendra when met at XXI Plaza Senayan, Saturday (6/6/2026).

To achieve a visual resemblance to the late Dono, Desta had to use a set of dentures during the shooting process. The use of this device apparently caused significant physical discomfort for the father of three.

Desta revealed that he experienced severe canker sores due to the prolonged use of the dentures. He even continued to wear them even when not filming to get used to the character."If we're talking about difficulties, yes, canker sores, that was really experienced. I couldn't take the dentures off until, what was it, until I got canker sores on my gums," he said.

Tora Sudiro, who also stars in the film, confirmed his colleague's total commitment. Tora mentioned that Desta only removes his dentures during meal times, while at other times they remain in place despite causing discomfort."The sensation of pain is indeed felt, so I wear them all the time except when eating," he said.

Desta emphasized that the pain he feels is nothing compared to his love for the legendary comedy group Warkop DKI. He feels honored to portray a character he has admired since childhood.

"So once again, for me, I am totally committed, especially for Warkop, I dedicate my life to Warkop because I have loved Warkop DKI since I was a child," he concluded.
