Kapanlagi.com - Plastic waste is one of the elements that has a very negative impact on the ocean and the living organisms in it. Based on that fact, Visinema Pictures has produced its first documentary film titled PULAU PLASTIK (PLASTIC ISLAND).

This film is handled by a number of top figures in the film industry, such as Dandhy Laksono and Rahung Nasution (directors), Lakota Moira (producer), and Angga Dwimas Sasongko and Ewa Wojkowska (executive producers). Dwimas explained his reason for getting involved in this project.

"PULAU PLASTIK is an important project. Dandhy and Rahung are documentary directors who have a vision and depth in handling every issue. Robi's dedication in running the PULAU PLASTIK campaign so far is also an important factor why this project needs to be fought for. Furthermore, what is in this film is my personal concern, so joining the filmmakers is an honor for us at Visinema," said Dwimas regarding the film PULAU PLASTIK in a press release received by KapanLagi.com.

1. Indonesia, the Second Largest Country Contributing Plastic Waste to the Ocean

PULAU PLASTIK is a documentary film and a collaboration between Visinema Pictures, Kopernik, Akarumput, and Watchdoc in responding to plastic waste pollution on the island of Bali and its surroundings. Plastic was initially seen as a solution to reduce deforestation by reducing the excessive use of paper bags. However, the mass use of plastic as the packaging material for commercial products has backfired. When it is no longer used and discarded, plastic becomes an undegradable pile of waste, posing a threat to marine life.

Indonesia is known as the second-largest contributor of plastic waste to the ocean. Single-use plastic packaging and microplastics that pollute the ocean and are consumed by marine animals have made their way back to our dining tables. Most of the food produced from the ocean has been contaminated and accumulated in our bodies.

The presence of the film PULAU PLASTIK is important to raise awareness among the public about the dangers of plastic waste and to encourage sustainable changes. This film invites us to make changes that can start from ourselves in the smallest environment, to be more caring and wiser by rejecting the use of single-use plastic products and packaging.

"There are already many initiatives and various solutions that we currently have." Let's be part of the solution together by involving communities, private sector, and government," said Ewa Wojkowska, Chief Operating Officer of Kopernik, who is also the executive producer of this film.

2. Filming in Bali and Java Island

The filming of PULAU PLASTIK took place in 2019, for six months in Bali and Java Island. This documentary film is created in an entertaining yet serious style and delivers a very positive message.

The film is a journey of Gede Robi (Navicula vocalist), Tiza Mafira (a young lawyer from Jakarta), and Prigi Arisandi (a biologist and river guardian from East Java) in exploring the extent to which plastic waste infiltrates our food chain, its impact on human health, and what can be done to stop it.
