Movie Talk: 'THE FALCON AND THE WINTER SOLDIER' Highlights Superhero's Inner Struggles After Captain America's Departure

Kapanlagi.com - THE FALCON AND THE WINTER SOLDIER is the second series from Marvel Studios that airs on Disney+. Not many people know that this series is actually the first Marvel Studios series project. This series is directed by Kari Skogland and still stars Anthony Mackie as Falcon and Sebastian Stan as Winter Soldier.

The story starts from the departure of Captain America who becomes the friend and role model of Falcon and Winter Soldier. While grappling with feelings of loss, they are faced with new problems that require their intervention. For the sake of world peace. 

Although it is aired in the form of a series, producer Kevin Feige assures viewers that THE FALCON AND THE WINTER SOLDIER will provide a cinematic experience like a movie theater. 

"We prove what we can do to the audience, Mr. Mackie and Stan, that even though it airs on TV, it doesn't mean it can't be as grand as a feature film. We have worked hard to make it happen," said Kevin Feige in a global press conference, early Monday morning. 

This was proven in the first episode that has aired, where there is a scene of Falcon flying and dodging rocket pursuit in a steep gorge. "If we make a series with Falcon and Winter Soldier as the characters, then we need to make the best action film ever," he added. 

1. Getting to Know Falcon and Winter Soldier from Heart to Heart

In addition to showcasing the great actions of Captain America's duo friends, this series also invites viewers to get to know them better. "We only know a little about Bucky Barnes. What he has been through all this time. While Sam Wilson, whom we know has done social work for war veterans. That's it. So this is an opportunity to dig deeper," said Kevin.

Kari Skogland describes the story of Falcon and Winter Soldier as a duo of law enforcement colleagues. Therefore, she takes various references from old Hollywood films. She believes that by polishing their image as a duo of colleagues, she can obtain the distinctive characteristics of this series she is working on.

In addition, Kari also takes the audience to the unexplored personal sides of Falcon and Winter. "We put Bucky in a position where he is in therapy. We really want to get intimate with the characters in it. We want to know more about them," said Kari.

2. The Story of Law Enforcers Duet

Meanwhile, the screenwriter, Malcom Spellman, admitted that the whole story started from the amazing duet of Falcon and Winter Soldier in CIVIL WAR. Their dynamics made Malcom confident that they would make a great duet.

"There is a 12-second scene in CIVIL WAR where all Marvel fans will understand that these two characters will be great and able to help each other," exclaimed Malcom.

From there, Malcom then crafted the story with many film references. He combined many details from films that highlighted law enforcement pairs as the main characters.

"We can go as deep as the 48 HOURS series or as funny as RUSH HOUR. It could also be like the first LETHAL WEAPON and BAD BOYS films. We want a story where Sebastian and Anthony can make it better. More importantly, we incorporate real issues and of course, include scenes that are very Marvel in the story," he explained.

3. Falcon who is Growing Up

In AVENGERS: ENDGAME's ending, Falcon receives the relay shield from Captain America. It can be said that he is the new Captain America in the future. However, it is not an easy task for Sam Wilson.

Responding to the potential development of Falcon in this series and the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Anthony Mackie feels that Falcon will evolve as the story progresses. 

"He is always evolving. Both in the comic stories or now, in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. We know that initially, he was portrayed as a hustler from Harlem. Then, as African American culture developed, Stan Lee expanded him into a new character in the comics. So, I can't wait to see what Sam Wilson will become in this series," said Anthony Mackie.

Sam Wilson is depicted as meeting his sister, who apparently had to struggle to support her two children while Sam disappeared because of Thanos. 

4. Winter Soldier Striving to 'Heal'

Bucky Barnes will delve further into his haunting past. As we know, he has long lived as an assassin. He has claimed many lives. Memories of such things do not quickly and easily fade away.

"Malcom's story will highlight Bucky's search for identity, how he accepts his past and reeducates himself about the world he lives in," said Sebastian Stan.

Bucky is depicted as trying to meet the relatives of his victims in order to make peace with what he has done.
