From Bruno Mars to Ariana Grande, These 42 Songs are Banned by KPI for Being Deemed Obscene

Kapanlagi.com - The Indonesia Broadcasting Commission (KPI) has issued a circular regarding the prohibition of playing 42 titles on all radio stations before 10:00 PM. This ban is due to the suspicion that several of these songs contain obscene content.

This rule emerged due to complaints from the public who deemed that several songs contained indecent elements. Mimah Susanti, a Commissioner of the Central KPI, stated that the circular was issued after coordinating with the Indonesian National Association of Private Broadcasting Radio (PRSNI).

"Based on our monitoring and also public complaints, there are several songs that are played with explicit content," said Mimah Susanti, as reported by Kumparan on Saturday (26/6).

1. Limiting Playtime

Mimah added that the radio can play curated and edited versions of songs. However, there are also songs that cannot be edited anymore.

In addition, Mimah understands that radio stations have their own primetime schedule. Based on this reason, KPI sets 22.00 as the starting limit for playing those 42 songs.

"Those forty-two songs, well, there are songs that are completely prohibited, even if they have been edited, they still cannot be aired. There are some that we ask them to edit so they can be played for the audience," she said.

"Primetime radio is different from TV, right? In the morning when taking children to school or at night when coming home. Because of this difference, it's possible that those songs earlier appear in the morning," continued Mimah Susanti.

2. Dominance of Western Songs

The list of songs limited by KPI is dominated by Western songs. Here are the songs that are considered to have explicit content:
