It’s Still Too Early to Discuss Seringai's Future After Ricky Siahaan's Passing

As one of the founders and architects of the music, Ricky's presence is irreplaceable in Seringai's journey, which has existed since 2002. Now, in the midst of mourning, questions arise about the future of the metal band from Jakarta.

Wendi Putranto, the manager of Seringai, admitted that he cannot say much about the next steps the band will take. According to him, the current situation is still very sensitive, and all members of Seringai are still in a period of grief.

"I don't know, to be honest, and I also don't dare to ask my friends in Seringai about the future of Seringai," said Wendi at the funeral home Sentosa, RSPAD Gatot Subroto, Central Jakarta, Thursday (24/4/2025).

For Wendi, it is too early to discuss musical plans or the band’s activities after Ricky's passing. As someone very close to the deceased, Wendi feels the need to give space for Arian, Sammy, and Khemod to go through the grieving process without the burden of questions about Seringai's continuation.

"Right now is still a mourning period, still a time of grief, and it seems too early to ask what the future of Seringai will be," Wendi said.

1. New Single Seringai

However, one thing that Seringai has recently done is release a new song titled "Pulang" on November 26, 2024. This song is the band's first release after almost seven years without a full album. It was also the song that initiated Seringai's new plan to become active in the studio again after the tour.

"Ricky and Seringai just released a new single, yes, it's titled ‘Pulang’, on November 26, this is Seringai's latest single after almost seven years without releasing an album," said Wendi.

The release of “Pulang” actually marks a new chapter for Seringai. The band has been planning to enter the recording studio after completing the “Seringai Wolves of East Asia Tour 2025”, which consists of five performances in Taiwan and Japan. However, fate had other plans, as Ricky passed away right after their last performance in Tokyo.

"Actually, for this tour process, after this tour, we will go into the recording studio," Wendi said.

2. Ricky the Music Architect

Ricky's role in the band's creative process cannot be overlooked. He is known as the 'music architect' who created the foundation of Seringai's songs, while many of the lyrics were written by Arian. Therefore, losing Ricky is not just losing a member, but also losing the musical soul of Seringai itself.

"Ricky's role in Seringai is very significant because he is the music architect of Seringai. So if the lyrics are from Arian as the vocalist, the basic music usually comes from Ricky, and it is also worked on together with Khemod and Sammy," said Wendi.
