Titiek Puspa Didn't Attend Music School But Can Create Timeless Songs, Petty: She is Extraordinary

Kapanlagi.com - Although known as a maestro of Indonesian music, Titiek Puspa actually has a background far from the academic world of music. This was revealed by her child, Petty Tunjungsari, while reminiscing about her mother during the tahlilan event seven days after Titiek Puspa's passing at the PTIK building, South Jakarta.

Petty revealed that her mother never received formal education in music. However, it is precisely from that limitation that great works emerged that have lasted across generations.

"She is extraordinary because she didn't go to school, she can't write notes, she can't use musical instruments, that's just how it is, so she's really a village person," said Petty.

1. Create Many Songs

Titiek Puspa is known for her productivity in creating love songs that are not only romantic but also hold her own life stories. One of her songs was even inspired by her own bitter love story.

"My mother had three failed love stories, but she turned those failures into challenges, and one of them inspired her to create a love song. One of the lyrics is 'you are flirting in front of me', that’s a true story," Petty continued.

2. Turning Pain into Art

For Petty, her mother’s spirit in turning pain into art is a valuable lesson. She believes that Titiek Puspa is capable of transforming every challenge into inspiration and strength.

"So what I mean is don’t expose your shame. Just like Eyang, she also experienced heartbreak but then turned that challenge into an opportunity," she said.

3. Nurturing Young Singers

Not only creating songs, Titiek Puspa has also been nurturing talented young singers for a long time. This reflects her concern for the regeneration of music in the homeland.

"If an orphan is not just someone who is alone every day. But you can see how she looks at young people with talent, they are truly nurtured," explained Petty.

4. Will Preserve the Works of Titiek Puspa

Now, even though Titiek Puspa has passed away, her musical legacy remains alive. Petty ensures that she will continue to protect and preserve her mother's works for future generations.

"Because in my opinion, her life is full of meaningful messages. It seems like God talking to me and God talking to humanity," she concluded.
