Lots of Memories in Hometown, Powerslaves Releases 'Semarang (Remastered)' Song in Digital Format

Kapanlagi.com - The music group Powerslaves re-released one of their latest songs in digital format titled Semarang (Remastered) on May 10, 2022. It is worth noting that the original song Semarang is one of the singles included in Powerslaves' fourth self-titled label released in 2001.

The song Semarang itself tells about the longing, memories, hopes, warmth, and love that were once felt by Powerslaves personnel. Considering that Powerslaves itself is one of the bands born in Semarang.

"There are many things we have been through in our hometown. Beautiful memories as well as bitter memories. No matter how Semarang is, wherever we go, the name Semarang will always be with us. Whether we like it or not, Semarang will always be our mother," said Heydi Ibrahim, Powerslaves vocalist, on Wednesday (11/5/2022).

Before the song Semarang (Remastered), Powerslaves had already re-released their new songs in digital format, one of which is Impian. On the song Semarang (Remastered), Powerslaves re-recorded it with the latest formation, namely Heydi Ibrahim (vocals), Anwar Fatahillah (bass), Wiwiex Soedarno (keyboard), and Agung Yudha (drums).

Wiwiex Soedarno explained that Powerslaves did not eliminate the substance of the notation in the original version that already sounded familiar. He really presented a sound that is suitable for the character of the song. With a strong and wide orchestral touch, Semarang (Remastered) becomes more magnificent.

2. Vintage and Modern

"Here, I am more focused on clarifying, making it more magnificent, and of course, have to consider two factors, namely vintage and modern. Vintage, because this song is very attached to the identity of teenagers in the '90s generation. Modern, because there are some sound approaches so that the current generation feels that this song is not outdated," said Wiwiex Soedarno.

Then, from the arrangement of the song Semarang (Remastered) itself, there is almost no difference from the original version. It's just that Powerslaves changed the sound of all the instruments, including mixing and mastering.

"There is only the addition of orchestration elements. We intentionally build memories with this song without having to add a lot of instrument fills that sometimes reduce the value of the previous arrangement," said Anwar Fatahillah.

3. Like a Time Machine

The song Semarang is like a time machine that takes its listeners back in time. Moreover, the release of Semarang (Remastered) coincides with the moment of Eid al-Fitr 1443 Hijriah.

This time, people can return to their hometowns after having to refrain from doing so for the past two Eid al-Fitr due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

"The timing is perfect for the atmosphere of returning to hometowns because Semarang is the birthplace of Powerslaves and there are many memories engraved in this city," said Anwar Fatahillah.

"Hopefully, this song can become the national anthem of Semarang. Like the songs Gambang Semarang and Semarang Kaline Banjir (Jangkrik Genggong), but from a rock perspective," concluded Heydi Ibrahim.
