The Story of Wancoy and Patra Gumala Forms the Band Gledeg, Chooses "Dream to Be a Goalkeeper" as Their First Single

This band has a unique formation, consisting of four members who are also known as comedians or stand-up comedians, namely Wanda Ok (vocals), Patra Gumala (bass), Oza Rangkuti (drums), and Kicuy Aduy (guitar).

With diverse musical backgrounds, the four of them have successfully brought a new color that combines humor and musicality. Although known as comedians, the members of Gledeg are not newcomers in the music world. Patra Gumala is the bassist of the band Speedkill, while Oza Rangkuti has previously played for Piston.

Kicuy Aduy is the guitarist of the band Stride, while Wanda Ok, the vocalist, used to have a punk band with Gofar Hilman called Social Distrust. This band was formed spontaneously. Patra Gumala recounts how the idea of forming Gledeg came about when he and Kicuy were on their way for a stand-up gig in Bandung.

"At the beginning of 2024, I had a stand-up gig in Bandung with Kicuy, and then we talked about wanting to form a band but just for comedy. Since we are also comedians, we initially thought about inviting some stand-up comedy friends. That was the idea, but for a few months, we couldn't think of who to invite as a drummer or vocalist," said Patra Gumala to Kapanlagi.com

1. Not Instant

However, the journey to realize that idea was not instant. Patra and Kicuy were initially confused while searching for other personnel. Until finally, at the end of 2024, Wancoy, who was then broadcasting with Patra on a radio station, expressed his desire to return to the band.

"I had thought about Oza, but I wondered, 'Does he still want to be in a band?' When I was confused about the vocalist, the idea hit a dead end and I just let it go. By the end of 2024, I was on the radio with Wancoy. During a break, Wancoy asked, 'Don't you want to be in a band again, Pat? Oza invited me to join a band yesterday.' Wow, this felt like a fate that was answered by chance,"

"I first met Oza in the content of Grind Boys talking about bands. The point is, we all actually just missed being in a band. Finally, we talked about 'let's form a band,' and it continued from there," Wancoy added.

2. Spontaneous Choice

The name Gledek was chosen spontaneously, but it was immediately accepted by all members. Kicuy, who came up with the name, explained that it reflects the fast, assertive, and enthusiastic energy of the band.

"So why is it called Gredek? Because it was that quick to decide to form a band and to decide to record," said Wancoy.

"The name Gledek came out of Kicuy's mouth. I don't know what the philosophy is, but as soon as the name came out, it was instantly okay because it sounds cool. It’s assertive, fast, and a word that’s easy to imagine the font for. The logo also came to mind immediately," added Patra Gumala.

3. Debut Single Release

As an introduction to the public, Gledek released their debut single titled Mimpi Jadi Kiper. This song carries a light yet unique theme, in line with the comedic background of its members. Patra revealed that the idea for this song came up playfully, but was ultimately chosen as the first single because it was considered funny and attention-grabbing.

"Why the song Mimpi Jadi Kiper? The title seems to be the funniest. At first, it was just for fun, but it leaked because Wancoy talked about it in Grindboys. So, it became the first single," explained Patra.
