The Nationalism Anxiety of Young People Fades, A New 'Idol' Contest Emerges to Find Nationally Aware Singers

Kapanlagi.com - A deep concern about the fading sense of nationalism among Indonesian youth has given birth to a new movement in the music industry. Arising from this concern, music and political figures initiated the Festival Nyanyian Anak Negeri (FNAN), an unusual talent search event.

The launch event for this festival was officially held at Gedung Joang, Menteng, Central Jakarta, on Sunday (13/7/2025). This festival was initiated by Pay Burman, Ahmad Doli Kurnia Tandjung, and Tatang Wahyudi.

1. The Origin of This Idea

Ahmad Doli Kurnia Tandjung, as one of the initiators, revealed that this idea originated from the phenomenon of many young people no longer memorizing the national anthem or Pancasila.

"There is a fading situation, in terms of understanding what it means to be Indonesian. At that time, many people didn’t memorize the song Indonesia Raya, didn’t memorize Pancasila," he stated.

2. Create a Program That Can Reach the Younger Generation

According to him, this concern is shared by his colleagues from various backgrounds, both political and musical. This encouraged them to create a more concrete movement.

After previously releasing a compilation album of national songs, they felt the need for a more massive program to reach the younger generation more broadly.

3. FNAN Event

Thus, FNAN was born, described as an event similar to Indonesian Idol but with a very fundamental added value. Participants are not only judged on vocal quality and stage performance.

More than that, these idol candidates must have a significant distinguishing factor: a deep understanding of nationalism and a strong commitment to patriotism.

"We want to find those who have that extra. So they can sing, have good performance, but also possess national insight, a high love for the homeland, and a strong commitment to nationalism," Doli emphasized.

4. This Program Involves Lemhannas

This program will also involve the National Resilience Institute (Lemhannas) and various ministries to provide training to the participants.

With this unique concept, the Children's Song Festival is expected to become a new barometer in producing national singer icons who are not only professional but also possess a strong sense of Indonesian character.
