Welcome Jakarta's Birthday, Collaboration of Laleilmanino, Diskoria, and Cecil Presents Single Djakarta

Kapanlagi.com - Welcoming Jakarta's 497th birthday on June 22, 2024, the collective Laleilmanino presents a single titled Djakarta. In this song that takes the theme of Jakarta residents' lives, Laleilmanino collaborates with several musicians such as the composer duo Diskoria, rapper Cécil Yang, and traditional music activist Yusuf "Oeblet".

The diversity of collaborating musicians is Laleilmanino's experiment to combine various colors of music according to the different patterns of Jakarta's people. The single Djakarta itself is released under the banner of Floor Inc., one of the sub-labels of Sony Music Entertainment Indonesia that focuses on EDM and hip-hop music releases.

Nino revealed that the lyrics in the song Djakarta were inspired by his personal journey with his father and his growing up experience in Jakarta.

"This song takes a lot of stories from my father's journey from Kebumen to Jakarta. As a migrant, my father often misses his hometown and returns by train," said Nino.

From that story, in their latest single, Laleilmanino tells a lot of stories about farewells and reunions at Jatinegara Station.

1. Enjoyed by Migrants

Nino added that the inspiration for his father's story as a migrant, which is expressed in the lyrics, will make this song not only enjoyable for those who were born and raised in Jakarta. Jakarta can also be enjoyed by migrants, even residents from other regions, because this song captures the complex atmosphere of Jakarta.

Not only that, Laleilmanino also highlights the happiness of Jakarta residents, which is not solely measured by material possessions. Nino, who oversees the lyrics department, states that lyrics such as “happiness is not just wealth” or “life without a tie always brings laughter” are their observations when interacting with people from various social classes.

Jakarta's life is not only narrated by Laleilmanino in a narrative form. Here, they also portray Jakarta by incorporating traditional Betawi music. Collaborating with Yusuf “Oeblet”, a traditional music enthusiast who is also Nino's music teacher during his grey and white uniform days. Oeblet uses a traditional Betawi stringed instrument called Tehyan to fill in some parts of the song.

“With this song, Djakarta, we also want to provide a space and platform for traditional music to portray Jakarta. So, we invited Mr. Oeblet, who has a long history in the world of traditional music, to collaborate on this song,” Nino explained.

2. Urban Touch

Not only traditional music, the presence of young rapper Cécil Yang also provides a strong urban touch through his hip-hop style. The interaction between the traditional and urban in this single reflects the vibrant life of Jakarta, with its urban areas and humble city neighborhoods. Cécil himself is a young rapper who has released several songs before and has recently joined Sony Music Entertainment Indonesia.

The release of the single Djakarta is also a historic moment as it is the first time Jakarta celebrates its birthday with its new status as the Special Capital Region of Jakarta (DKJ). After 60 years of being the Special Capital Region (DKI) through Law number 10 of 1964, Jakarta is now releasing its special status.

"Laleilmanino released the song Djakarta this year as a gift and a memory archive of Jakarta, which has been the Special Capital Region for decades. Jakarta is home to millions of people while being the capital. The single Djakarta is our gift to the city and the people of Jakarta," concluded Nino.
