Artist Nasirun Passes Away, Kunto Aji Mourns and Remembers the Deceased

Through a black-background post on Instagram, Kunto Aji expressed his touching grief.

"I cried while brushing my teeth. Alone. I received the news a few hours ago. My shoulder is already wet with the tears of the person I remember," wrote Kunto Aji.

He added, "Grief comes at times we do not anticipate. It waits for the right moment."

In Kunto Aji's eyes, the late Nasirun could face life's pressures with a humorous perspective. Or in the term he used, "Srimulatan." Therefore, Kunto Aji expressed gratitude for all the life lessons he had received from the late Nasirun.

"I believe even the angel of death was your ride earlier, sir. thank you, sir. thank you. there is no galaksi song from Gombloh here, sir, let's accompany it with prayer. although I am sure your path is smooth. safe journey, Mr. Nasirun. eternal peace," he concluded his statement.

3. Nasirun Passes Away in Yogyakarta

According to a report from News Liputan6.com, Indonesian visual arts maestro Nasirun passed away on Saturday (1/8/2026) at around 05:58 WIB at AMC Muhammadiyah Hospital in Yogyakarta. The artist, born in Cilacap, Central Java, who resided in the Special Region of Yogyakarta (DIY), took his last breath after complaining about his health condition, which included chest pain and acid reflux.

The National Gallery published a special post on its social media to commemorate the late artist.

"Nasirun (1965–2026) was known as an artist who brought tradition and spirituality into distinctive contemporary artworks that are reflective and relevant to the present day through stories of wayang and mystical tales inherited from his mother, as well as the values of Islamic mysticism practiced by his father. A graduate of Batik Craft and Fine Arts from ASRI/ISI Yogyakarta (1994), he was actively creating and had exhibited extensively in Indonesia and abroad, both solo and group exhibitions, including several at Galnas," reads the post.
