Baim Wong Denies Custody Issue as a Reason for Appeal: This is About Law Enforcement

Kapanlagi.com - The divorce lawsuit of Baim Wong and Paula Verhoeven was officially decided on April 16, 2025, at the South Jakarta Religious Court. However, shortly after, both parties jointly filed an appeal to the High Religious Court. There are allegations that child custody has become one of the triggers for the appeal, but Baim Wong's attorney, Fahmi Bachmid, denied this issue.

Fahmi emphasized that the appeal filed by his client is not solely because of the child custody issue, but because they want to ensure that all legal processes are carried out according to the provisions. "Yes, it's not just about child custody. This is about law enforcement and legal certainty regarding the contents of the decision," Fahmi asserted during an interview in the Tendean area, South Jakarta, on Monday (29/4/2025).

He added that from the beginning, Baim and Paula had indeed agreed to remain responsible parents for their children even though they are no longer together. "The children remain a priority. There is no emotional custody battle here," he said.

1. Want to Ensure Everything is Carefully Examined

According to Fahmi, the appeal is primarily driven by dissatisfaction with a small part of the legal considerations of the judges at the first level. "From a substantive perspective, we just want to ensure everything is examined carefully at the appellate level," he continued.

He also emphasized that there is no animosity between Baim and Paula, especially concerning the child. The legal process continues to proceed professionally without delving into deeper personal matters.

"Everything is conducted normatively, not emotionally," Fahmi asserted.

Furthermore, Fahmi stated that his side believes in the religious court system that will decide the case fairly and proportionally. "We are confident that the judges at the appellate level will also look at the facts and the law objectively," he said.

2. Already Filed an Appeal

Currently, they are waiting for the official schedule from the Religious High Court regarding the examination of the appeal documents. "We have submitted the appeal memory, now we just wait for the next steps," Fahmi explained.

At the end of his statement, Fahmi urged the public not to speculate excessively about this appeal. He requested that the community respect the ongoing legal process.

"Don't speculate, let the legal process run according to its course," Fahmi concluded.
