Fariz RM's Trial Postponed Again, Judge Issues Strong Warning

The latest news comes from the legal proceedings involving legendary musician, Fariz Rustam Munaf. The hearing scheduled for the reading of the indictment related to the drug abuse case, held at the South Jakarta District Court on Monday (28/7/2025), had to be postponed.

The reason for the postponement was that the Public Prosecutor (JPU) stated they were not ready to read the indictment against the singer of the song Barcelona. This was revealed directly in court when the presiding judge, Lusiana Amping, asked about the prosecutor's readiness.

"Today's hearing is scheduled for the reading of the indictment, how about the prosecutor, are they ready with the indictment?" asked Lusiana Amping in the courtroom.

In response to the question, the prosecutor, Indah Puspitarani, briefly acknowledged that her side needed additional time. "We apologize, Your Honor, we are not ready yet," she replied.

Regarding this matter, the panel of judges decided to grant an extension of one week. However, the judge also issued a stern warning that the prosecutor must complete the indictment file and that there should be no further delays in the future.

"It shouldn't be postponed again, it's already in accordance with the SOP of the Attorney General's Office. We will give one more week. So for the indictment next week, August 4, 2025. The hearing is postponed until August 4, 2025, with the agenda of the prosecution from the public prosecutor," said Lusiana.

Meanwhile, Fariz RM's side, represented by his lawyer, Deolipa Yumara, responded to this postponement with an open-minded attitude. According to Deolipa, his client does not feel disappointed at all and will continue to follow the court proceedings willingly.

"If there is no feeling of disappointment, then Fariz RM also feels guilty so he does not feel disappointed. What is clear is that he is following every stage of the ongoing legal process, including several delays," said Deolipa Yumara after the trial.

Interestingly, Deolipa sees this delay as a good faith gesture from the prosecutor. He believes that the prosecutor is being careful in formulating a proportional demand, which is expected to lead to a rehabilitation process.

"They are processing this demand into a proportional demand that aligns with state policies in the sense of changing the position of users who could previously be punished into rehabilitation," he concluded, showing optimism.
