This statement was made by Melly at a forum themed "Steering Innovation, Inclusivity and Diversity Through Gender-Balanced Parliaments for a Future-Ready ASEAN". According to Melly, a parliament dominated by one gender risks producing biased and non-inclusive policies. However, Melly also emphasized that achieving a balanced parliament cannot be done solely by the government. She invited all parties, including civil society and the private sector, to participate in this effort. "A gender-balanced parliament is key to creating an ASEAN ready to face the future," she said.
As a member of BKSAP and the DPR, Melly expressed her commitment to advocating for inclusive policies that represent all groups. She believes that the role of women in parliamentary diplomacy is very important, especially in formulating fair and responsive policies.
"Women members of BKSAP and the DPR have a strategic role in representing gender perspectives in parliamentary diplomacy, prioritizing gender perspectives in legislation, and building inclusivity in the decision-making process," she asserted.
