More than 300 Performances, Keenan Nasution's Attorney Claims Vidi Aldiano Did Not Obtain Permission to Perform the Song 'Nuansa Bening'

The absence of Vidi Aldiano as the defendant in the first hearing prevented the panel of judges from officially reading the lawsuit. The attorneys for Keenan Nasution and Budi Pekerti, Minola Sebayang explained that the reading of the lawsuit can only take place when the defendant is present in court.

In his statement, Keenan Nasution and Budi Pekerti's attorney, Minola, revealed the background of the lawsuit which focuses on the use of the song Nuansa Bening without permission from Vidi. The song has been popular since it was first released in 1978.

"Because the defendant is still absent, it cannot be read yet because the lawsuit will be read when the defendant is present," said Minola Sebayang at the Central Jakarta Commercial Court on Wednesday (28/5/2025).

The song created by Keenan and Rudi has been sung by many singers before Vidi. However, problems arose when Vidi recorded and distributed the song without an explicit agreement.

"And it has already been covered by many artists before, because the song 'Nuansa Bening' created by our client Keenan Nasution and Rudi Pekerti has been released since 1978, sung by its creator Keenan Nasution himself," said Minola.

"At that time it was already sung by top singers including Fariz RM, and various others. So this is not an original new song and then Vidi is the first person to popularize this," he added.

Vidi started re-recording the song since 2008 and distributing it both physically and digitally. This distribution is considered to have been done without official permission from the creators.

"So it is indeed a popular song that was remade by Vidi. Now up to that point there is no issue, no problem. However, after 2008, Vidi recorded that song and then distributed it through VCD and cassette," he said.

"What we are concerned about is that Vidi has used that song commercially in many concerts from 2008 to the 2020s," he added.

In addition to physical and digital distribution, the song has often been performed by Vidi in hundreds of shows. However, until now, there has been no form of permission or compensation to the song's creator.

"Maybe more than 300 live performances, where the song 'Nuansa Bening' was sung but there has never been a request for permission to its creator. There is also nothing else that Vidi has done towards its creator," he said.
