Mother Iffet Passes Away, Armand Maulana Calls Her a Mother for the Children of the 90s Band Era

Sad news comes from the Indonesian music world with the passing of Iffet Veceha, or better known as Mother Iffet, the mother of Bimbim Slank. Mother Iffet passed away on Saturday (26/4/2025) at the age of 87 after several days of intensive care in the hospital.

Mother Iffet was not only known as an important figure in the journey of Slank, but also as a mother figure for many band members in the country, including the band GIGI. GIGI's bassist, Thomas Ramdhan, expressed his personal closeness with the deceased.

"The deceased was not just a mother, but a mother to all the children. Her history is very significant, I was here with Ronal before Gigi was even formed, we were that close, she was very supportive of all the kids, wherever they gathered here," said Thomas in Potlot, South Jakarta, on Sunday (27/4/2025).

In line with Thomas, Armand Maulana also feels the significant role of Bunda Iffet in the musical journey of many bands, including Slank and Gigi. He assesses that the presence of Bunda Iffet is crucial in nurturing these bands. "There are so many impressions if expressed, and Slank wouldn't be like that if it weren't for Bunda, it's impossible," said Armand.

Armand also reminisces about one of the most memorable moments he had with Bunda Iffet. He recounts the attention Bunda gave to Gigi every time they performed.

"Yes, what I posted on Instagram is true, Bunda always comes when Gigi and Slank perform. Gigi goes first and then Slank, Bunda is always there on stage watching Gigi," said Armand.

On that occasion, Armand also shared a unique story about why Bunda Iffet always watched Gigi perform before Slank. According to Armand, Bunda's attention was so sincere and full of love for all the bands. "I asked, why does Bund watch Gigi, there’s a break before Slank? She said I enjoy watching Gigi," said Armand.

Bunda Iffet's closeness with musicians in the 90s is undeniable. She not only became the manager of Slank but also became a figure who was highly respected by the music community at that time.

"She would always ask for a hug right after the first song, we were already too close. You could say we toured with Slank in 30 cities and there’s so much more. There are too many stories, yes, what Thomas said is true, she is the mother of all band kids in the 90s, especially in the pop rock scene, it feels like our own mother," said Armand.

Mother Iffet is widely known as the unique and historic manager of Slank, especially during the band's heyday in the 90s to the early 2000s. Armand highlighted how special Mother’s role was in Slank's career journey. "Mother was the manager of Slank from 1990 to the early 2000s, that had never happened before. I don’t know if it exists anywhere in the world, a manager called by the entire audience to come on stage, it seems like that’s never happened before," said Armand.

"Everyone from a football field was called to the stage, asked to speak, in the middle of Slank's performance. We see that, as Thomas said, the person behind Slank is Mother," Armand continued. Rest in love, Mother Iffet!
