Pay Burman Remembers the Late Bunda Iffet, the Second Mother Who Guided His Teenage Years

The sad news enveloped the music world in the homeland with the passing of Bunda Iffet, the mother of Bimbim Slank, on Saturday (26/4/2025). The figure known for being close to musicians passed away at the age of 87 after several days of treatment in the hospital.

Pay Burman, the former guitarist of Slank, admitted to being very shocked when he heard the news. He remembered Bunda Iffet as someone who was considered like a parent since their teenage years.

"I just heard the news, around 11 o'clock, I was also shocked to hear it, because she was like a parent to us since we were teenagers," said Pay Burman at Potlot, Saturday (26/4/2025).

"Bunda's contribution was immense for us, so we are truly mourning, including friends Bongky, Indra, so as I passed by here, I tried to stop by," added Pay Burman.

According to Pay, the presence of Mother Iffet in the early stages of his music journey was very meaningful and has left a lasting impression until now. He refers to Mother as a figure who is attentive to the young people who are paving their way in the music world.

"Mother is like our parents when we were teenagers, a mother who contributed to the children at that time, paying attention to us who were still teenagers back then," he said.

On that occasion, Pay also recounted his last meeting with Mother Iffet before her passing. He feels grateful because he had the chance to visit when Mother was still able to recognize the people around her.

"A little while ago, she had started to get older and a bit forgetful, we came here to visit, and luckily, Mother still recognized us, I’m grateful to have met her beforehand," said Pay.

Not only as a supporter, for Pay, Mother Iffet has become like a biological mother to both of them. He revealed many important moments he experienced with Mother while building his career in Jakarta.

"Like my second parents, this is where I have gone through a lot, because my parents are in Sumatra, mother here is the one who becomes my parent, there are so many memories," he said.

Regarding Mother Iffet's health condition before she passed away, Pay revealed that some time ago her health response was still quite good. However, he realized that old age made that condition something normal. "Some time ago her response was good, but I think she was already quite old, it's something normal," said Pay.
