Paula Verhoeven's Legal Team Visits the Press Council Regarding Privacy Violations

During the meeting, they highlighted reports regarding Paula's divorce from Baim Wong, which were considered unbalanced and contained personal information in an unethical manner.

"The Press Council welcomed and even encouraged Paula's legal team to file complaints against media outlets that 'have not been responsive'," said Paula Verhoeven's attorney, Erwin Natosmal Oemar at the Press Council, Kebon Sirih, Central Jakarta, Tuesday (29/4/2025).

The presence of Erwin and his team was directly received by the Press Council, which provided procedural guidance if they wished to proceed with a complaint. This guidance is considered important to maintain a fair and rule-compliant clarification mechanism.

"There are some media outlets that are less aware or do not respect personal data," said Erwin Natosmal Oemar.

According to Erwin, his side feels objected because there are media that published sensitive data about his client without permission, such as medical records and other personal information. In fact, such matters should be protected and not published indiscriminately.

"The news may not necessarily be true; regarding our client, that is just the claim from the other side, which is not necessarily true," explained Erwin.

Erwin also emphasized the importance of the journalistic code of ethics in news reporting, including the principle of covering both sides or balanced reporting. This is crucial so that the public receives complete information, not one-sided.

"The media has a code of ethics; balanced reporting should confirm from the concerned parties," said Erwin.

The Press Council also reminded that parties who feel aggrieved by the news should actively clarify their position. This message is conveyed so that similar violations do not recur and serve as a lesson for all parties.

"Earlier, the Press Council also recommended that our side should not be passive, so it is important to learn from this as well," he concluded.
