Fariz RM Caught with Drugs
The continuation hearing of the narcotics abuse case involving senior musician Fariz RM was held again at the South Jakarta District Court on Thursday (3/7/2025). Fariz RM's legal counsel, Deolipa Yumara, submitted a request for his client to receive rehabilitation treatment.
This request is based on the fact that Fariz RM is a narcotics user, not a dealer. According to Deolipa, users should be placed in rehabilitation, not serve prison sentences.
"Of course, this is what we hope for in this trial, that in the upcoming decision he will be rehabilitated, because he is a user, and users should be rehabilitated, not prosecuted in the context of prison sentences," said Deolipa at the South Jakarta District Court on Thursday (3/7/2025).
"This situation alone has led to a user being processed legally, afterwards it shouldn't, they should have been directly rehabilitated either at BNN or the police," he added.
Although his client has been involved in similar cases several times, Deolipa believes that the rehabilitation steps are still worth providing. He explained that addiction is a condition that is difficult to overcome in a short time.
"Well, when we use, we definitely do it several times, users are addicted, and for someone who is addicted, it's quite difficult, just like someone who smokes, stopping smoking is incredibly hard," he said.
The statements from the witnesses will later become an important part of the plea that will be submitted. In addition, the legal counsel will also attach a request for rehabilitation as one of the supporting documents.
"Later we will submit it in the plea along with a letter for rehabilitation, with statements from expert witnesses, as well as statements from Bang Fariz too, since he wants to repent, who knows he might really repent in the future," he explained.
As reported earlier, Fariz RM was arrested by the South Jakarta Metro Police in Bandung, West Java, on February 18, 2025. The police secured evidence in the form of narcotics including methamphetamine and marijuana. Fariz RM has undergone the indictment trial, and the Public Prosecutor (JPU) has charged Fariz RM under the drug trafficking article, namely Article 114 paragraph (1) of Law Number 35 of 2009 concerning Narcotics. /far
