Rimba Raya, a cinematic series based on artificial intelligence, was officially introduced by the Deputy Governor of DKI Jakarta Rano Karno. This project is produced by Karnos Visual Magic in collaboration with the streaming platform Vidio and Artha Graha Peduli. The announcement took place in Karang Tengah, South Jakarta, on Saturday (15/8/2026).
Rano elaborated on the premise of the story that focuses on two main characters, Rimba and Raya. "Rimba Raya is actually two characters. One is named Rimba, and the female character is a doctor named Raya. Coincidentally, Rimba has a background as a child of the Suku Dalam from Jambi who was adopted by a botanist. That’s where the journey begins," Rano Karno said when met in Karang Tengah, South Jakarta, on Saturday (15/8/2026).
This series is intended for digital viewing and combines a cinematic approach with AI technology. The involvement of several partners is said to be a crucial factor in the production process, from story development to distribution.

Karnos Visual Magic has become the main driver of the Rimba Raya production. According to Rano, the establishment of this production house is also a step to respond to the acceleration of technology in the entertainment industry. "That’s what makes me learn with these kids. That’s why Karnos Visual Magic was formed? One of the reasons is to anticipate that AI is something we cannot avoid," said Rano.
Support from the streaming platform comes from Vidio. Rano expressed appreciation for the collaboration that allows this series to be aired exclusively on that service. This collaboration includes the airing and release strategy that has been agreed upon from the beginning.
On the funding side, Rano mentioned the involvement of his longtime friend, Samidi, from Artha Graha, who expressed support after a direct discussion. "He is at Artha Graha, my friend for maybe several decades living here with us. As soon as I spoke, he said: 'Alright, we’ll help.' Wow, I said okay," revealed Rano.
Rimba Raya tells the story of Rimba, a child from the Suku Dalam tribe in Jambi who is taken in by a botanist, and Raya, a doctor. This setting serves as the starting point of a story that explores the meeting of humans, knowledge, and the environment.
The screenplay writing process involves Aryo Rubik, Rano's long-time assistant since the days of Si Doel Anak Sekolahan. Rano encourages Aryo to write the script while also incorporating messages about nature and wildlife for young audiences. "He also writes. I talk to him: 'Yo, Sir wants to make this. You write the script.' But at the same time, we want to not just teach but inform children about what the forest is like, what the animals are like," said Rano.
The educational value becomes a common thread in the story, especially regarding forests and biodiversity. This message is designed to be organically present in the plot, in harmony with the characters and the events they face.
Rimba Raya will be exclusively broadcast on Vidio starting Monday, August 17, 2026. The release date coincides with the momentum of Independence Day, while the viewing access is centralized on one platform.
This series consists of 10 episodes with a monthly release pattern. Rano emphasized that the format is not weekly, but rather a new series every month. "So, Rimba Raya has 10 episodes. But of course, it will come out monthly, not weekly. There will be a new series every month," said Rano.
With this format, each episode is prepared for phased release throughout a year of broadcasting. This scheme allows for consistent story development alongside the production and distribution process.
