The Struggle of Mpok Alpa Against Breast Cancer, Even Underwent Treatment in Malaysia

Kapanlagi.com - Behind her cheerful and laughter-filled persona, Mpok Alpa harbors a significant struggle against breast cancer. Her husband, Adji Darmaji, disclosed that various medical efforts have been made for the recovery of his beloved wife.

This struggle even took them across the sea. Adji recounted that Mpok Alpa underwent routine chemotherapy treatment in Malaysia for months.

"We went to Malaysia for treatment, for chemotherapy, over time, chemotherapy lasted about 8 months, every 2 weeks, every 3 weeks until we returned after a month, until she was dropped here," said Adji when met at their home on Saturday (16/8/2025).

1. Undergo Intensive Treatment

The intensive treatment initially showed positive results. According to Adju, the lump in Mpok Alpa's breast showed good progress and decreased in size after undergoing a series of chemotherapy and radiation treatments.

"Thank God it has shrunk, but it has spread to the lungs. It's small but has spread, that's why it's confusing. It has shrunk, there has been a lot of progress, it has been irradiated up to 15 times, it has shrunk," he explained.

2. Cancer Cells Spread to Other Organs

However, fate seemed to have other plans. As the main lump began to shrink, the cancer cells spread to other organs, namely the lungs. This then caused Mpok Alpa to experience a persistent cough that lasted for a full month.

"Mpok's cough didn't go away for a month, the doctor said some cough for 30 days, 40 days, maybe Mpok is one of those who had a cough for a month. The cough kept going, the duration was long," he explained.

3. Stay Enthusiastic to Create

Even in a not-so-good condition, Mpok Alpa's spirit to keep creating seemed never to fade. Two months before passing away, she was still actively filming.

"Two months ago (still actively filming). If this month, she is not anymore," said Adji.

4. Declining Condition in the Last Month

However, in the last month, her condition deteriorated drastically, requiring intensive care in the hospital. The family decided to focus on healing and halt all her activities in the entertainment world. Her husband recounted how Mpok Alpa's breath felt heavier day by day.

"Because she was about to recover, we thought, ‘let's not continue with the treatment until Mpok drops and is hospitalized.’ Hospitalized for treatment, it turned out that day by day her breath became heavier," he explained.

5. Trying to Be Independent Despite Illness

Despite her deteriorating condition, Mpok Alpa continues to show an extraordinary fighting spirit. She is the type of person who does not want to be pampered by illness and always strives to be independent as long as she is able. Her life principle is what makes many people unaware of how tough the battle she is facing.

"I have (been experiencing shortness of breath for the past two months), because the person really can't sit still, the late one, they said has an illness but shouldn’t be pampered. If offered to someone else, she wouldn’t want it, 'just let it be, so let it be if we can still do it ourselves, then we do it ourselves,' that’s her personality," said Adji.
