Kapanlagi.com - The West Jakarta District Court has sentenced Ammar Zoni to 3 years in prison and a fine of Rp 1 billion related to a drug abuse case. This sentence is much lighter than the 12 years demanded by the Public Prosecutor (JPU).
After the trial, Ammar Zoni's attorney, Jon Mathias, revealed that his client accepted the decision. According to Jon, this ruling proves that Ammar Zoni is not a drug dealer as previously alleged by the prosecutor.
"So his actions were proven, but the elements of the article do not indicate that Ammar is a dealer or seller as the prosecutor claimed. So what is proven here is that Ammar is a user for himself," said Jon Mathias, Ammar Zoni's attorney at the West Jakarta District Court, Monday (26/8/2204).
Jon added that Ammar was only proven to be a drug user for personal use, not for sale. According to him, this is an important point that clarifies that Ammar is not a dealer as many have suspected.
"He is a user. However, the judge decided that it exceeded the provisions in the Supreme Court circular number 10. So, clear now, Ammar is not a seller or dealer. He uses it for himself, and no one is harmed," explained Ammar.
He also emphasized that the evidence found indeed exceeded the limits set in the Supreme Court circular (MA), but that does not mean Ammar is a dealer. Jon mentioned that Ammar is just a user who happened to possess more evidence than allowed.
"In that ruling, the prosecutor did not genuinely exercise Ammar's right to be assessed. That was also the judge's consideration regarding Ammar, because his rights were not upheld," he explained.
With this decision, Jon states that his side accepts the decision from the West Jakarta District Court. He also emphasizes that any further responses regarding this verdict should be directed to the relevant prosecutor.
"Yes, we accept it. If it's the prosecutor, just ask the prosecutor later," concluded Jon Mathias.
