Movie Talk: Exploring the Star Wars Universe Through the Story of 'THE BAD BATCH' Gang

Kapanlagi.com - Happy May 4th, KLovers. May the force be with you. On this year's Star Wars day, Lucas Film released STAR WARS BAD BATCH, a new series airing on Disney+. STAR WARS THE BAD BATCH not only offers a new show that indulges Star Wars fans, but also brings viewers to a new perspective in exploring its universe.

BAD BATCH is produced by Dave Filoni, Athena Portillo, Brad Rau, Jennifer Corbett, and Carrie Beck, and Josh Rimes. Brad Rau, who also wrote the story, sits in the director's chair. BAD BATCH focuses on the story of a group of clone troopers led by Hunter after the Clone Wars ended.

BAD BATCH starts with Order 66, where the Republic clone troopers are ordered by Palpatine to eliminate all Jedi forces (also watch STAR WARS EPISODE III: REVENGE OF THE SITH). Instead of carrying out the given order, Clone Force 99, consisting of Hunter, Tech, Wrecker, Crosshair, and Echo, question it. They wonder why they should eliminate the Jedi Knights who have been their comrades all this time.

Since its trailer release, BAD BATCH has received positive responses for presenting a unique angle on significant events in the Star Wars universe. The decision to present such a story was revealed by the producer as an effort to fill the gap in the Star Wars film stories.

"What happens after the war ends (Clone Wars), what happens to the clones with their knowledge that they only live for war. Especially for the Bad Batch who do everything differently whether they are with the Republic or the Empire," said Jennifer Corbett in a recent virtual press conference.

Jennifer mentioned that the transition between Star Wars films holds potential for interesting stories. "It's very interesting to talk about the transition from the Republic to the Empire and what it looks like. Because we didn't see that in the original trilogy. What we saw was the direct domination of the Empire," she added.

This was also acknowledged by one of the voice actors in BAD BATCH, Dee Bradley. He mentioned that the existing story gap becomes more interesting as revealed from the perspective of the Bad Batch gang who have peculiar habits compared to other clone troops."
"Interesting point, Jen, that the transition did happen so quickly and unexpectedly. They changed into a power structure based on rules. That..." we know that this gang never obeys orders. Hahaha," he said.

THE BAD BATCH Presents a Unique Perspective

THE BAD BATCH also reminds us of STAR WARS ROGUE ONE where the main characters are a group of unique and eccentric warriors. This sets it apart from other Star Wars stories that focus more on major characters like Jedi Knights or Sith. 

Producer Brad Rau believes that dynamic stories are more interesting to watch. "When the story is related to family dynamics, our emotions are also touched. Such stories also make action scenes feel richer," he said. He shared that working on BAD BATCH was very enjoyable and allowed him to bring familiar characters to the screen.

"This (introducing unique characters) also gives us room to be creative and play, especially in character development," he added. In THE BAD BATCH, there will be Hunter, a unique leader with the ability to track scents. He has very sharp senses. Second, there is Tech who is an expert in using all kinds of technology. Third, there is Wrecker who is the "muscle" of the team. He has great physical strength. Fourth, there is Echo who still holds many mysteries because he is a modified clone. Lastly, there is Crosshair who is the sharpshooter in the story.
