God Bless Prepares First Acoustic Concert After 52 Years of Making Music, Retaining Rock Vibes - Collaborating with Nicky Astria and Ikang Fawzi

The legendary band God Bless is set to offer a different experience for its fans through a concert titled Unplugged Live Concert at Balai Sarbini, Jakarta, on May 17, 2025. After more than five decades of performing with a strong rock style, the band is finally trying an acoustic format for the first time.

Achmad Albar, the vocalist, describes this concert as a new exploration in their musical journey. According to him, this concept can create a closer atmosphere between the band and the audience.

"It seems like something new for us. Why not give it a try, to create a different atmosphere," said Achmad Albar in the Kalibata area, South Jakarta, on Wednesday (7/5/2025). Here are the details.

He added that the acoustic format was chosen because of the intimate and warm impression that can be felt in every performance. God Bless hopes to present something unusual yet still memorable for its listeners.

"This is more familiar, meaning that with acoustic we are closer to the audience. Hopefully, it will be an interesting show," said Achmad Albar.

God Bless's guitarist, Ian Antono, emphasized that this is truly their first time performing live in an acoustic format. Although they had experimented during recordings, they had never tried an acoustic stage before.

"Yes, it's true what Mas Iyek (Achmad Albar) said. This is our first time if we talk about records, we've been doing that for a while. But for live (concerts), this is the first time and it can create a new experience for God Bless," said Ian Antono.

Even though they are bringing a new format, God Bless will not lose their identity as a rock band. Ian assures that this acoustic concert will still have the distinctive energy that has been associated with the name God Bless for decades.

"Don't get me wrong, we will still play. So the acoustic will be done in a rock style, not soft like that. In my opinion, this is quite heavy, which is why we need additional players. The sound is not like electric, we need another guitarist and a violinist as well," Ian explained.

To support the acoustic music arrangements to remain solid, they are collaborating with additional musicians. Not only from their own band, but also several guest stars who are already familiar in the Indonesian music industry.

Names like Nicky Astria, Ikang Fawzi, and Tohpati are confirmed to attend as part of this celebration. This collaboration is believed to bring a new color without leaving behind the main character of God Bless.
