Reasons Maliq & D'Essentials Chose 'Senja Teduh Pelita' as the Title of Their Musical Theater

The choice of the title "Senja Teduh Pelita" is not without strong reason. The vocalist of Maliq & D'Essentials, Angga Puradiredja, explained that the song has monumental value that can reunite the feel of their band.

This song is considered a meeting point after the long journey of the band from 2018 to 2019. According to Angga, the song successfully restored their musical essence from the very first day the band was formed.

"The song 'Senja Teduh Pelita' is monumental for us. It unites the feel of Maliq since we started until around 2018-19. Finally, we can find again, eh, we can reunite the feel of Maliq from the very first day until this day in this song," said Angga Puradiredja when met at Galeri Indonesia Kaya, Central Jakarta, Wednesday (3/6/2026).

2. Emotional Memories of the Personnel

Aside from musicality, this song also holds many emotional memories for its personnel. Angga mentioned several important moments in the world related to the song.

"That's one. Secondly, this song has a lot of moments, right? We thought we were at Abbey
Road at that time. Secondly, we got to perform with Coldplay at that time with this song as well. So, it brings back memories with this song. Well, finally, it leads to this musical drama. So I just want to share the sentimental side," Angga explained further.

3. Cross-Generational Appeal

Widi Puradiredja, the drummer, added that this song has cross-generational appeal. This is evident from the diverse profiles of Maliq's listeners who started to recognize them from different school levels.

"Yes, this is indeed monumental and in a way, it meets in the middle of generations, perhaps. So Maliq has generations who have been listening since elementary school, some who just got to know Maliq in high school, and some who just got to know Maliq in college. Well, in our opinion, 'Senja Teduh Pelita' is a song that meets across generations, meeting in the feel of Maliq which has many versions," Widi expressed.

4. The Image of the Band in the Eyes of the Public

This title is considered very iconic and synonymous with the image of Maliq & D'Essentials in the eyes of the public. Its ability to represent the band's identity is a primary consideration in the execution of this musical theater.

"In our opinion, 'Senja Teduh Pelita' represents all the sounds we want, the message we want, the feelings from all angles, lyrics, music, this is the most accurate," he said.

"And in terms of the title, it seems that nowadays besides 'Untitled', what do people quickly associate with Maliq? Like 'Senja Teduh Pelita', people quickly relate it to Maliq," Widi concluded.
