Mark Sungkar Disappointed Being Sentenced to 1.5 Months as a City Detainee Related to the Corruption Case of Triathlon Activity Funds

Kapanlagi.com - The Central Jakarta District Court judges have sentenced senior actor Mark Sungkar to 1.5 years in prison as a city detainee in the case of alleged corruption of the Triathlon National Training Activity Fund. Hearing the verdict, the biological father of artists Shireen Sungkar and Zaskia Sungkar felt disappointed.

Not only that, Mark Sungkar was also asked to pay compensation of Rp 50 million with the provision of serving a prison sentence for one month if the fine is not paid, and to reimburse the state losses amounting to Rp 694 million.

"How about the defendant, have you heard the verdict to undergo a one year and six months prison sentence as stated earlier?"," the chief judge asked Mark Sungkar during the verdict hearing at the Jakarta Corruption Court on Friday (9/7/2021).

"I understand and I am disappointed."," answered Mark Sungkar.

"Please take your steps after this, defendant. We declare that our trial is finished and closed."," said the chief judge.

1. Consideration by the Chief Judge

In this corruption case of triathlon funds, the judge sentenced Mark Sungkar to 1.5 years in prison, taking into consideration both aggravating and mitigating factors.

"An aggravating factor is that the defendant, Mark Sungkar, did not support the government's program in combating corruption. As for mitigating factors, the defendant has already returned the state's losses, has not been previously convicted, and is in a sick condition," said the Chief Judge.

2. Charged with Subsidiary Accusations

In the case of alleged corruption of the Triathlon training funds, Mark is charged with subsidiary accusations, under Article 3 Jo Article 18 paragraph (1) letter b of Law No. 31 of 1999 concerning the Eradication of Corruption Crimes Jo. Law No. 20 of 2001 concerning Amendments to Law No. 31 of 1999.

Previously reported, Mark Sungkar created and submitted a proposal for an event titled 'New Era of Triathlon in Indonesia' to the Minister of Youth and Sports, with a budget of Rp 5.072 billion, in 2017 for the Asian Games 2018. However, after the event, it is alleged that Mark Sungkar used Rp 399.7 million of the remaining funds for personal enrichment.
