Digging and Remembering His Old Works, Agus Suwage Presents an Installation Exhibition Titled The Theater Of Me

Kapanlagi.com - One of the renowned artists in Indonesia, Agus Suwage, presents a solo exhibition titled The Theater of Me at the Museum Macan, Kebon Jeruk, West Jakarta. The exhibition is open to the public starting from June 4, 2022, and mostly consists of Agus Suwage's self-portrait works taken over a period of 30 years.

During a press conference at the Museum Macan, West Jakarta, on Thursday (6/3), the Director of Museum Macan, Aaron Seeto, said that the exhibition was selected based on Agus's consistency in his works. Moreover, the issues raised from each of Agus Suwage's works are related to the current situation.

"His works are consistent, as well as his achievements. The issues that arise are also suitable for the pandemic situation, so relevance and consistency are considerations for Museum Macan," said Aaron Seeto.

1. Self-Portrait and Theater Stage Exhibition

One of the latest works presented in the exhibition is the Self-Portrait and Theater Stage. The work, which features a series of Agus's face portraits in various forms, was intentionally created for the solo exhibition that was supposed to be held in 2020.

Not only that, this exhibition also makes Agus nostalgic for his old works, as almost fifty percent of his works have become the collection of others.

2. Works from the Early Days

The exhibition also includes works from Agus' early days as an artist who worked on pure art after a career as a professional graphic designer.

"In my early works, there was a very clear social and political influence," said Agus on the same occasion.

"Then in its development, it became more fluid, more subtle. Touching on everyday life, about religious norms," he continued.

3. Various Themes

In addition, Agus added that the themes raised were actually only digging from old works. Even so, that's not a problem for him.

"For me, when something is still relevant and disturbing, I will release the work as a kind of medium to express my complaints," Agus Suwage concluded.
