Exciting! Bontang City Carnival 2023 Successfully Presents a Variety of Cultural Creations

The Sun's Heat Does Not Dampen the Enthusiasm of the Residents

"In Bontang City, there are often parades, but only BCC has a carnival," said Dinda, a resident of Berbas Village, Bontang. Dinda, who came with her family, chose a spectator location on one side of the main stage.

They watched the carnival until it finished even under the scorching sun. "Coincidentally, my sister-in-law was a participant, so her group was the most awaited," she added.

Participants Come from Various Backgrounds

This year's Bontang City Carnival participants are not much different from last year. In addition to the Regional Apparatus Organization (OPD) in the Bontang City Government, there are also community groups, associations, and art performers who participate in enlivening the carnival and cultural parade.

The first procession was the carnival. A variety of costume creativity was presented by the earlier groups. Each carnival participant consists of an average of 10 people. In addition to showcasing vibrant carnival costumes, participants also wear traditional clothing from Indonesia.

The theme of the carnival costumes is in accordance with the organization's field of work. For example, the Bontang City Food Security Agency showcases costumes related to Indonesia's staple food.

Or the liquefied natural gas processing company in Bontang presents costumes with themes of gas and oil refining and mining. Even the banking sector does the same with costumes related to finance.

Cultural Nuances Reflected in Carnival Costumes

Cultural nuances are most strongly felt in carnival costumes. The culture in Kalimantan Island is one of the most prominent, such as the Dayak Tribe.

Bontang Mayor Basri Rase emphasized that BCC is expected to motivate people to know tourist attractions as destinations in Bontang City. Thus, it opens opportunities for small and medium-sized businesses and increases people's income.

"BCC is the most anticipated event for the people of Bontang every year because it has been held since 2012," said Basri in his speech.

Basri also hopes that this annual event can make tourist attractions in Bontang City known more widely through social media and mass media coverage.

After the carnival parade is over, the next cultural parade participants fill the streets that become the carnival route. This is where Bontang shows its true face as a region with diverse communities.

Various communities from different ethnic groups, regions, and social groups showcase their respective cultures. Everything is available from Sabang to Merauke.

When passing the main stage, each group is allowed to display their respective cultures. These participants present dances, cultural performances, and traditional costumes.
